It is a great blight on every country in the world that women and children need help. It is a sad truth that women and children are mistreated in first and third world countries and every sphere of society.

In third world countries there aren’t enough resources to fund organizations and shelters. In first world countries the problem is so great there aren’t enough organizations and shelters.

It is true that more and more women are becoming addicted to drugs and alcohol. Often, addiction is the reason they turn to prostitution. Sadly, many of these women are mothers with one or more children to care for. Prostitution is an extremely dangerous means of making money.

Another very common reason women and children need help is due to domestic violence. The man of the house inflicts physical abuse on the mother or on the mother and children. In some cases, it is both physical and sexual abuse. Such men prevent their family from having contact with anyone outside of the home. The mother and children live in constant fear.

Organizations that help women and children in need depend on donations from the government, corporations, individuals and volunteers. Often, the only way to provide substantial help is to provide a safe shelter at a secret location.

In order for a volunteer to help at such a facility it is necessary to understand the gravity of the women and children’s situation. Very often, their lives have been threatened by abusive husbands and fathers. In fact, it is when these women leave the home that they are in the greatest danger of being physically assaulted or even killed by their spouse.

Organizations for assisting women and their children also work with other organizations. For example, if a mother needs drug rehab she is sent to an appropriate facility. In the meantime her children could be kept safe and secure in a foster home.

It is unlikely that an abused woman has been allowed by her husband to work. The organization would assist in her getting training in order to get a job to support her children. Eventually, a woman would be helped to get a home and even donated furniture.

Volunteering your time at an organization to help women and children is a big responsibility. However, it is very rewarding to know you are part of a system that rescues such women and their children from deplorable relationships to start afresh.

There is a great deal of assistance required in getting an abused or addicted woman to a point where she can care for herself and her children. This is why so many dedicated volunteers from all of walks of life are always appreciated.
