Fun Ways to Wear a Belt
A belt is functional because it keeps your pants or skirt in place, but it’s also a fun fashion statement that can pull your entire outfit together. It can also add a focal point to an ensemble and give it a fun punch of color and style. How you wear your belt is just as important as the belt you choose, as different ways of wearing it will give you a different look. It’s expected that you have fun with your accessories, so consider how to have fun with your belts.
An obi belt is a high, wide belt with a separate piece that ties over it in the front, like the sashes you see around a kimono for which it’s named. You can create your own obi belt effect by wearing a high and wide piece of material around your front and wrapping it around your back. As it meets in the back, crisscross the two pieces and then twist them as you bring them to the front, and tie them tightly. You’ll look like you’re wearing a very fashionable obi belt which will slim you down and give you a flattering look.
When you have a loose cotton dress, you can wear a slim leather belt but it doesn’t need to be snug around your waist as if you’re wearing it with pants. Choose a loop that keeps it loose and let it sit on your hips and droop just slightly for a casual, slouchy look.
Knotting your belt is a good way to use up excess material for a belt that’s too big, and can give you some added depth. If you have a belt that’s too large, loop it all the way through but rather than buckling it in the front, tie it in a sharp knot and let one long end dangle. You can also choose a skinny tie belt for this look; pull one end through the buckle all the way through and then tie the long and loose end to keep it in place. If it’s still too long, knot it one more time.
The look of a double belt is fun and adds a layer of material to any dull outfit, and you can have fun with this look by stacking two thin leather belts on top of one another. They don’t need to be the same color so choose a black and a pink belt, or a pink and a white belt.
For a very casual look, try cloth as a belt. You can wrap a twisted scarf through your belt loops and tie it in the front of off to one side. You can even use a man’s necktie for a fun look. Mix up your style with your belts to create a look that’s uniquely your own.Related Stories:
